Luggage in Munich: No waiting thanks to support |
inconso AG and Vanderlande Industries support the baggage system in Terminal 1 in Munich |
|
In order to continuing
guaranteeing the high quality of baggage handling, Munich airport has
entered into a 5 year on-site support contract with Vanderlande
Industries as the general contract and inconso AG for the baggage
conveyor system in Terminal 1. The contract was awarded after an
international tender process according to EU law. The baggage conveyor system in the one kilometer long terminal consists of 4 nearly identical systems (Module A - D). Each system has two Check-In islands and transfer feeds. Each of the four sorters has a storage conveyor where early baggage can be saved. The system is monitored and supported around the clock on 7 days a week. The support team consists of about 20 persons, of which two come from inconso. The leading supplier of IT and consulting solutions for logistics in Germany is also responsible for the support, maintenance and disruption clearance of the existing PCs, server hardware and system software as well as support for the inconso developed application software for the sorting PCs in the modules A – D and the distribution calculator. The system ensures that the baggage is routed correctly and is loaded into the correct plane. Where a bag has to be transported to in the 7.7 kilometer long network is recognized by the system using the barcode on the baggage tags from the airlines. The average processing time is eight minutes. The bags and suitcases from the arriving flights are also sorted and sent to one of the eight arrival carousels or handle as transfer luggage. For the opening of the airport in May 1992, the baggage conveyor system from Vanderlande was constructed and controlled with the application software from the inconso-predecessor company. Since then, there have been many complex system extensions added such as the integration of the multi-step x-ray controls. |
