Extensive discussions and many findings on the inconso invitation day at PharmLog

inconso invited to the inconso day at PharmLog Pharma Logistik GmbH in Bönen (Westphalia) and a large crowd of logistics and IT managers followed the invitation. The extremely complex requirements of the pharmaceutical service provider are fulfilled with high performance and flexibility in the inconsoWMS X on-site. Wilfried Pfuhl, a member of the executive board of inconso AG, PharmLog managing direc-tor Hans-Peter Meid and his IT manager Hans-Peter Pelger, as well as inconso pro-ject manager Dr. Gerhard Köhler, led an intensive discussion after the opening words from Mr. Pfuhl.

Questions and answers revolved around four clearly defined topics. On the one hand, the pharma industry specific aspects for processes and requirements were intensely discussed as most of the participants came from companies in the phar-maceutical industry. With a high level of engagement, it was elaborated on how Pharmlog achieves highly efficient controls the tasks of its distribution center such as complete stock and batch security, delivery based on FEFO (first expired, first out) principles and above all, assuring an exact daily processing of each incoming order with a so-called daily close.

All questions on the complete IT landscape was answered openly by Pharmlog and inconso such as questions and presentations about comprehensive selection proc-esses for solution providers with market analysis, reference visits and workshops. In addition, questions were posed regarding the organization and progress of the complex project which involved not only the implementation of the new warehouse management system, but also a parallel change of the entire IT landscape onto a new basis.

The participants were impressed also from the multi-faceted logistics of the ware-house. Among other things, two two-storied halls with three large picking areas for original cartons (radio data transmission and weighing technology), partial pallets (Pick-by-Light) in the refrigerated warehouse and in the normal temperature range as well as the shipping hall (package sorter, Put-by-Voice and RFID supported fork-lifts) are found next to the fully automatic high bay warehouse. In the scope of the inconsoWMS X and for the performance based control of the distribution center, the leading supplier of consulting and software solutions for the logistics in Germany implemented four area-related control monitors that are coordinated by the higher order control center among other things.

In view of this variety, it was no wonder that the closing tour round in small groups did not want to come to an end. "How such a complex system can be controlled in a flexible and high performance way is always interesting and no questions remained unanswered today", said one participant. "We would not have thought that we would drive home with such rich findings."
